Orange France Selects Atlys Billing Solution to Support Carrier's UMTS Launch
(Cincinnati; July 24, 2001) - - - Convergys Corporation (NYSE: CVG), the global leader in integrated billing and customer care services, announced today it has signed its first major European Atlys [R] wireless billing contract. The company has licensed its Atlys Billing and Customer Care Solution to Orange France (formerly known as France Telecom Mobile), part of the Orange / France Telecom Group (NYSE: FTE). Convergys will also manage implementation and integration of the Atlys solution.
In addition, the contract contains a significant international provision - a framework agreement establishing a special relationship between Convergys and France Telecom that would allow the Orange Group to use Atlys in its numerous global affiliates.
Orange France, France's leading mobile operator with more than 15 million subscribers, will use Atlys to sell its future 3G services GPRS and UMTS. The first version of Atlys will be in operation in mid-2002. In addition, Orange France plans to migrate its more than 15 million existing subscribers to the Atlys solution within three years. Orange France is part of the Orange / France Telecom Group which has operations in 20 countries around the world. As of March 2001, Orange / France Telecom has more than 33 million subscribers.
Convergys' Atlys solution was recognized as the wireless industry's premier billing solution when it received the Billing Excellence Award for Best Wireless Billing Platform at Telestrategies Billing World 2001 Conference & Exhibition in June. The award credited Atlys with catching the attention of wireless carriers with its comprehensive support for the global wireless voice and data market and its robust capabilities, which deliver unsurpassed scalability, modularity, flexibility, and reliability.
"We thoroughly examined a number of billing solutions and found the Convergys Atlys solution to be the best solution to support the launch of our new UMTS services while helping us address the dynamic European wireless services market going forward," said Didier Quillot, CEO of Orange France. "We were further impressed with Convergys' portfolio of highly successful wireless clients and the company's solid reputation for delivery, performance, and solution innovation."

"This contract places Convergys at the forefront of billing in Europe with a leading wireless mobile operator," said Monica Mehan, president of Convergys Europe. "The scalability, flexibility, and reliability of Atlys, including its open systems architecture and sophisticated functionality such as pre- and post-pay in one system, distinguish it as the billing solution of choice for leading wireless operators like Orange France, a carrier interested in launching new services quickly."
Convergys will manage the implementation and integration of the Atlys solution for Orange France. The licensing of Atlys to Orange France exemplifies the flexibility of Convergys' business model since Convergys is the telecom industry's largest provider of outsourced billing and customer care.
Atlys is Convergys' best-in-class, end-to-end billing solution for the global wireless voice and data market. The Atlys solution supports all major mobile network standards, including UMTS, CDMA, TDMA, GSM, and AMPS, in an open, client-server solution capable of supporting over 20 million subscribers in a single relational database. The solution provides a total customer management solution by combining a flexible, scaleable billing platform with a complete suite of integrated contact center services. Mobile operators use Atlys to differentiate their products and services, maximize the value of each customer interaction, and expand their businesses strategically and with agility.
UMTS stands for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System and is part of the International Telecommunications Union's "IMT-2000" vision of a global family of "third-generation" (3G) mobile communications systems.
